Why is OTO – Your Own Rental Platform?
OTO allows the lender to list their gear, set their own rates and also allows to set their own terms & conditions. Each lender can build their own business with OTO. For the borrower, OTO allows choosing between different lenders giving access to unlimited gear.

Where is OTO Located?
OTO is an Online gear rental platform which connects lenders and borrowers. We are just an email away (enquiry@www.otoworld.in) to answer any queries you might have or leave a message in our chat box.

What does “beta launch” mean?
We are launching with limited features and capabilities. The full set of features might not be available. For any clarifications, please mail us at enquiry@www.otoworld.in.

Where is OTO operating?
OTO is currently operating in Bangalore only. If you are a lender or a borrower and want to sign up with us, please fill the form and submit https://www.otoworld.in/my-account/

How does the rental process work?
Step-by-step rental process is as below;

  1. Lender lists the gear, sets the prices and terms & conditions.
  2. Borrower can ‘Browse’ through the lists and raise the request.
  3. Lender goes through the request and accepts.
  4. Borrower makes the payment
  5. OTO will pick up the gear from lender and deliver to borrower and vice-versa
  6. Before pick up, the lender keeps back-up documents showing that the gear is in working condition along with time stamp (Example: Photograph indicating the time stamp – just before delivery, video of a drone in flight along with time stamp)
  7. Before accepting the gear, borrower to check if the gear is in working condition. Also, borrower to keep the back-up documents (photographs of gear) showing the condition of gear. By accepting the gear and taking it into custody, the borrower accepts the terms of the rental agreement and that the borrower has received the gear in good condition. If the borrower does not report anything, it means that the gear is in good working condition and that the borrower is responsible for the gear and any changes in condition over the course of the rental.
  8. When the borrower returns the gear, the lender must inspect that all items are returned and that all items are in the same condition when the borrower picked up from lender. If the lender finds that the gear is NOT in the same condition or any item missing, they must report the discrepancy to OTO within one hour of receiving the gear.

How do I join? Does it cost anything?
It is quick and easy to join OTO. You just need to register here.
If you are a lender, list your gear for FREE. We charge 20% commission on each transaction from the lender. So, we make money only when you make money.
If you are a borrower, browse through the gear and raise a request to book. Delivery is mandatory for all transactions on OTO.

What information should I provide in my profile?
As long as you are lending the gear on rent, registration will suffice. However, if you are switching your role from lender to borrower, the following documents need to be provided.

Does OTO support in delivery of gear?
OTO offers delivery services (currently Bangalore only) for all transactions. Check the delivery policy for more details.

How do I know if the gear listed on OTO is available on the selected dates?
When you raise a request for the gear, the request goes to the lender to accept the booking. If the gear is available, you will receive an acceptance message/mail within 1 hour from the time of booking.  You can go ahead with the payment once the acceptance mail is received.

Getting Started – Lender

What kind of gear can I list?
Any gear required to create visual content can be listed on OTO.

How do I list gear?
Listing on OTO is quick and easy. You can login and go to ‘Add products’.

Can I give multiple package options?
Lenders can create multiple packages along with their own Terms & Conditions.
You may list as following;

  1. Only camera body (Example: 1,000)
  2. Camera + lens (Example: 1,500)

These can be mentioned as a package and offered.

What kind of photos work best for listings?
We recommend lenders to use photographs of their own gear as against the stock photos. Please ensure that all the items listed under the package are shown in the photographs. Also, ensure that whatever items are shown in photos are delivered.

How can I get more rentals with OTO?
Creating an experience to your borrower is the key.

List as much gear as you have
Borrowers would like to rent all the gear from one lender. You have better chances of being chosen if you have all the gear they are looking for.

Complete your profile and earn trust
Completing the profile and sharing the information about the gear accurately increases the chances of being hired. This allows you to stand out with in your network.

Quick and positive response
Borrower goes through your gear and raises the request to rent. While you have 1 hour to act on the request, the earlier you approve the better it is for the borrower. This ensures that the borrower is spending lesser time in renting out the gear.

Also, lenders who are able to cater to the requests on a continuous basis will be more visible on top in search results.

Better ratings
Get better ratings for yourself by creating an experience for the borrower. Ensure that the gear is clean, well-organized, safely packed. Be professional during the entire cycle of renting.

Commitment
Once you accept the request of the borrower, never cancel it.

Include a link of your website in OTO profile and OTO link in your website
Provide the website page and other social media handles links on your OTO profile. Similarly, provide link of your OTO profile in your website.

These actions will increase your chances of being visible in search results.

How should I price my listings?
On OTO, lenders can set their own rates. Typically, with the price you decide, you should be able to recover the cost of gear in less than 100 days. While this is ballpark figure, it is important to stay competitive and offer prices that makes business sense for you and the borrower.

How does OTO help me find the right borrower?
The exchange of gear on OTO is limited to professionals and we take utmost care in curating the professionals. The lender is free to specify their own Terms & Conditions in the listing section. This ensures that the borrower is aware of the Terms & conditions of lender before booking. This ensures a smooth transaction.

OTO does the background verification check for all borrowers on the platform. We verify the ID proof check and/or address proof. In addition to that, we also try to check PAN / Aadhar / social profile/references. While we cannot ensure that these are 100% accurate and do not take any liability, we try our best to make it a safe place to transact.

How do I know my gear will be safe on OTO?

  1. OTO collects certain information about the borrower before onboarding. While OTO does a one-time verification of the professional, we recommend the lender to do their own due diligence. OTO will provide the background verification report to the lender before accepting the booking, basis which the lender can decide whether to lend or not.

Is there any registration fee?
We do not charge any registration fee.

Do I need to provide any documents for registration?
The exchange of gear on OTO is limited to professionals and we take utmost care in curating the professionals. Hence, it is mandatory for all the borrowers to provide the following information to borrow the gear.

Why is my request or account pending approval?
All the visual artists who want to be part of OTO community should go through a verification process. Basis the documents submitted and profile completion, OTO will verify the authenticity. Either you provide incomplete information or if we are not able to verify, the account will be kept on hold for approval. We will reach out for more information and once satisfactory responses are provided, then it will be approved.

Will the lender offer delivery services?
OTO is offering delivery services within Bangalore. We charge a flat rate of ₹250 per one-way delivery and ₹500 for a round trip.

What if I receive a faulty gear?
When you pick up the gear from delivery person: You need to check the gear before taking it up from delivery person. If the gear is faulty, immediately return the same and inform OTO. OTO will try its best to provide an alternative.

Once you take the gear along, you will be liable for any damage to the gear.

What if the gear fails during the rental?
Any faulty gear must be taken to the authorized service provider of original gear manufacturer. The decision of the authorized service provider is binding on the borrower and lender.

If the failure is due to physical damage: Any physical damage or damages caused due to mishandling of gear during the rental is the responsibility of the borrower. Borrower needs to get the gear repaired in an authorized service center only. The borrower needs to replace the gear if it is completely damaged. All the expenses to be borne by borrower.

If the failure is attributable to wear and tear: Lender is liable for the same and should bear the expenses to rectify the gear.

How do reviews and comments ratings work?
We encourage all lenders and borrowers to post honest reviews of their transaction. Better reviews will definitely help your counterpart to choose you.

Policies

Cancellation Policy

IF THE LENDER HAS MENTIONED THE CANCELLATION POLICY IN THEIR TERMS & CONDITIONS, THOSE TERMS WILL OVERRIDE THE BELOW TERMS. IF THE TERMS ARE NOT MENTIONED BY LENDER, THE FOLLOWING TERMS WILL BE APPLICABLE

We highly discourage both lenders and borrowers from cancelling rentals.

Cancellation before lender accepts the booking:
If you have raised a request for gear and awaiting the approval of lender, you can cancel the request. The request can be cancelled by going to your ‘Orders’ page.

Cancellation after lender accepts the booking:
For any cancellation after the lender accepts the booking, please mail to bookings@www.otoworld.in .

Policy for lenders:

  • Lenders should accept the booking only when they are certain that they will fulfil the requirement. Whenever you cancel, a review is added to your account mentioning that you cancelled the booking.
  • Each time you cancel the booking, there will be a penalty of ₹ 1,000 per cancellation. The penalty is deducted from the next rental payout.

Policy for borrowers:

  • If cancelled more than 48 hours prior to reservation, 100% of rental fee and delivery / return charges, if any, will be refunded.
  • If cancelled between 48 hours and 24 hours of rental period, only 50% of rental fee will be refunded. Delivery / return charges, if any, will be refunded.
  • If cancelled between 24 hours and commencement of rental period, only 25% of rental fee will be refunded. Delivery / return charges, if any, will be refunded.
  • If cancelled during the rental period, there is no refund.

Late policy

IF THE LENDER HAS MENTIONED THE LATE POLICY IN THEIR TERMS & CONDITIONS, THOSE TERMS WILL OVERRIDE THE BELOW TERMS. IF THE TERMS ARE NOT MENTIONED BY LENDER, THE FOLLOWING TERMS WILL BE APPLICABLE

For lender:
If there is a delay in returning the gear by borrower, contact OTO as soon as possible.

For borrowers:
Late fee policy for borrowers is as below:

  • In case you are getting delayed than the stipulated time, inform OTO. OTO in turn will check with the lender and seek approval. In case the lender does not grant an extension, return the gear as per the stipulated time. OTO will in its best efforts try to arrange an alternative.
  • Beyond 1 hour, if you have not yet returned the Gear, you will be charged for an extra rental day
  • Beyond 24 hours, for each additional day, twice the rental charges will be applicable.
  • If we do not hear from you within 48 hours of the stipulated time, the item is considered to be missing and FIR is filed. The penalty is levied until the gear is returned.

Fees and Payment

Does OTO collect GST on my behalf?
OTO is a start up and our revenue is less than 40 Lakhs per annum. As of now, we will not be charging GST. However, TDS might be deducted, as applicable.

Is there a fee to list my gear on OTO?
Listing your gear is absolutely free. We can even help you in getting your gear listed. Reach us at enquiry@www.otoworld.in

Are my earnings from renting out my gear taxable?
Taxes will be applicable as per applicable laws.

Do I pay for the rental before or after I pick up?
Payment for rental is made in advance at the time of booking.

I’m a lender, how and when do I get paid? How, and when lenders receive payment.
Payments will be made to the account specified in your profile. Lenders will receive the payment in 3-5 working days from the day of completion of transaction.

Can I check out from multiple lenders at once?
Yes, multiple gear can be booked from multiple lenders.
